Tour of Vienna

Today I got a nice tour of Vienna given by a local. Roman was still feeling under the weather, so he hooked me up with his friend Simona and she showed me around all day. Vienna is a very nice city. It was the capital of the Austro-Hungarian empire for a long time and as a result is full of grand palaces and buildings fit for emperors. The architecture of the city is very different than the other great European capitals that I have visited thus far on my trip (London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam). It definitely feels more Eastern European. Simona told me quite a bit about Austrian history in a very short period of time and pointed out the significance of all of these buildings, but it didn't stick in my memory too long. It was a very nice day to wander around though. A local tour guide is always the best. Here are some pictures. Some buildings in Vienna were destroyed in World War II, but were restored and it is hard to tell that they are new.
I believe this is the oldest church in Vienna.

This cathedral (Stephansdom) had a very cool roof.

If I remember correctly, this cathedral was mostly destroyed in WWII and what you see here is all restored.
